2022/06/06 - Mayor's Column: Thank You Major Case Squad; Town Hall; Fireworks

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

I want to say THANK YOU to the twenty Major Case Squad and O’Fallon Police Department members for all the hours and effort that was put forth to solve the recent homicide.  Their quick actions and effort resulted in the quick arrest of five suspects involved in the senseless shooting at one of our local restaurants.

I also want to thank the local businesses that had cameras that caught views of the assailants. And, thanks to the Shiloh Police Department for helping secure the scene of the crime immediately after the incident. I would also like to thank the underwater rescue units that did the recovery of evidence from a lake.

Four of the suspects in the homicide were from out of town and all were under the age of 20. The one remaining suspect was charged with Obstruction of Justice/Destroying Evidence and Aiding a Fugitive. The investigation revealed that the victim was targeted, and this was not a random act of violence.

No one wants to see a crime like this ever occur, but it is good to know that proper and efficient work of all involved leads to the capture of the suspects when it does occur. This effort was a true exhibit of partnership and agency/city cooperation in bringing criminals to justice.

On a different note, on June 15th, I will be holding a Town Hall meeting at 6:30 PM at City Hall.  We will have presentation on our City Emergency Plan and City-Wide Construction projects. I hope that you can attend in person, but if not it will also be aired on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_eS-xQ7oLT9aKj3K3DPdezA.

I also want to give those that have fired off a lot of fireworks in the past a heads up, that The O’Fallon Police Department will be having extra officers on duty to deal with illegal use of fireworks.  With the number of injuries, fires, and the negative impact that it has on many of our residents, the city will be taking action on those violating the State Law.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
