2022/06/13 - Rest in Peace Danny Witt

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

How lucky is O’Fallon to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard? On June 12th, O’Fallon lost a good man; and I lost a great friend. O'Fallon Ward 7 Alderman, Dan "Danny" Witt joined the angels in heaven after a tragic accident.

Dan and I had been friends for many years. We both belonged to many of the same civic groups and our families spent time together. The only thing Danny loved more than this community was his family.

He and his wife, Janet, have lived in O’Fallon since 1977. They have a son and daughter with two granddaughters.

Dan is a Vietnam Era veteran and is a member of the following organizations: Fraternal Order of Police Metro East Lodge #262, American Legion Post 137, and O’Fallon Booster Club (Board of Directors).

I have ordered all flags at City facilities be lowered to half-mast until Danny’s funeral arrangements are complete. His obituary is shared at https://www.wfh-ofallon.com/obituary/danny-witt. I am not alone when I say that I will miss my friend Danny.

Danny is the second member of the City Council that we have tragically lost in the last 90 days. Kevin Hagarty passed away of natural causes on March 30th.

Both individuals were dedicated to this community and worked tirelessly to help others. Dan and Kevin both enjoyed spending time on the golf course and at community events. Both of them were instrumental in City Fest.

They both also provided leadership and expertise on the O’Fallon City Council. It is not often you find people that will honor their values, be open to listening to others and put in the time to help this community (and those living in it) better.

Danny will be missed by all of us and that little smile that was always there, but he will not be forgotten.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
