2022/07/11 - Mayor's Column: O'Fallon Always Steps Up

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

Another one of the things that has always helped make O’Fallon the community that it is are the volunteers that silently step up to help with various activities in the community.  Those volunteers don’t do it for recognition, they do it because they want to give back to the community and make an impact.

In this article I want to touch on four different ways that people have gotten involved recently and can get involved in the future:

We are so fortunate to have six good applicants step up to be considered to fill the City Council vacancy in Ward 7, that was caused by the sudden death of Mr. Dan Witt.

Many communities have trouble finding anyone who would want to run for public office. But O’Fallon once again responded like no one else.  We will meet with each applicant over the next two weeks and select shortly after that.  I will then submit that person to the city council for their approval as the new Ward 7 Council Member.

City Fest is just around the corner (August 19th & 20th) and I’m proud to announce that over 30 of our businesses have stepped up to be sponsors of this city-wide festival.

I also want to say thank you to our City Fest Committee.  These men and women meet year-round to plan and organize this event for our citizens and work many hours during City Fest.

With the coming of City Fest, we still need some volunteers to help with various activities like the parade, clean up and others.

City fest is done totally by volunteers and local businesses for the benefit of our entire community.  If you have two to four hours on the 19th, 20th or 21st we would appreciate your help.

If you, a family member, or an organization you are part of would like to volunteer please email me at [email protected].

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
