2022/08/22 - Mayor's Column: Great Week for O'Fallon!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

What a fabulous last four days for the City of O’Fallon and its residents! This weekend once again demonstrated why O’Fallon is such a great community and why so many people love to call it home.

You may have heard by now, but O’Fallon was one of the four communities across the State of Illinois to be named as a finalist for the Governor’s Hometown Award.

O’Fallon was selected as a finalist for the great volunteerism, led by the O’Fallon Police Department, for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and support for Special Olympics. The Torch Run, much like so many other events put on by our police department has been one of the most successful in the State of Illinois.

The success of these events is only accomplished with the combined efforts and leadership of our police department and the generosity of our businesses, community, and volunteers.

The most special part about the Law Enforcement Torch Run is that it enables our Special Olympians to do something that we all strive for: being able to hold their heads up high and take personal pride in what they were able to accomplish.

We were then invited with the other three Hometown Award Finalists to give a presentation last Thursday at the State Fair. Five of us spoke during the presentation which was led by Detective Nick Schmidt along with a film that was very well put together by Administration Intern Cameron DeWitt. The result was excellent! For the first time, O’Fallon was the Governor’s Hometown Award Champion! O’Fallon brought the Cup back home with us!

Then we quickly shifted gears and got ready for City Fest. On Friday and Saturday, we saw another perfect example of volunteerism. I would like to say THANK YOU to our fabulous City Fest committee, sponsors, and volunteers for all they did to make City Fest a big success! Their generosity (time and money) is so very much appreciated. City Fest would not exist without their support and hard work!

Thank you, O’Fallon, for always being there to lend that helping hand to those that need a little extra support. I have always known you are the best, but now the entire state of Illinois knows it!

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
