2022/09/19 - Mayor's Column: IML Conference & Upcoming Town Hall Meeting

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

It is good to be back in O’Fallon, following three days at the Illinois Municipal League (IML) meeting in Chicago this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. IML is a Statewide organization that represents over 1,290 communities from across the State of Illinois. It is the state’s largest group to represent, give testimony, and sponsor legislation that would be beneficial to local communities.

At this year’s conference, we had a chance to hear about and discuss many issues that are facing our State and cities across Illinois.  We heard from both candidates for Governor and Secretary of State in the November election, and we were able ask questions of them.  We were also supposed to hear from three representatives from State agencies familiar with the legislative actions greatly affecting law enforcement in the State of Illinois. However, all three   canceled their appearances, with little notice given to IML and the over 200 people in attendance at that particular session.

On a personal note: two years ago, I was elected to the IML Board of Directors.  At this year’s meetings I was re-elected to the Board of Directors and was elected by the Board of Directors to serve on the Executive Committee of the IML.  This will give me an opportunity to help formulate ideas, express an opinion on behalf of our citizens and give firsthand feedback on major pieces of legislation that can have an impact on our city.

I would also like to take a minute to invite you to my next Town Hall Meeting on October 5th at 6:30 PM at City Hall to hear about and discuss the significant changes that will be happening at the Community Park over the next couple of years.  It is my 21st Town Hall meeting.

The topics to be discussed are the new all-abilities playground, the new trails and bike paths in and around the park, the new swimming pool and more.

Here is your opportunity to hear firsthand about these projects, get your questions answered and to give your feedback on them before any construction takes place.  These projects should be important to you because they not only involve the use of grants the city has received, your tax dollars, but it will also shape the future of the Community Park for years to come.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
