2022/09/26 - Mayor's Column: National Citizens Survey

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

I strongly believe that getting feedback from our citizens is very important as we grow our city.  That is why I have quarterly Town Halls, meetings with individuals, and broadcast our council meetings on T.V., Zoom and our website. Another way we push to get feedback from our citizens is the biannual National Citizens Survey.

Since 2005, the City of O’Fallon has participated in the National Citizens Survey to see what our citizens feel about the direction and services of our city and how that compares with the over 600 other cities that participate in the survey.

This gives us a good indication of what people think of what we are doing in different areas and what things we need to improve on.  This year we had over 550 of our households respond to the survey.  This is the largest response that we have ever had! Thank you to everyone who participated, your input goes a long way in helping us improve.

The survey is normally done every 2 years.  Below is some of the feedback that we have received from YOU, our customers, as to how we are doing. The percentages that you see are for the percent of rating at good or excellent:

  • 82% approve of the quality of services provided by the city.
  • 88% have an overall feeling of safety in O’Fallon.
  • 90% overall approval on customer service they receive from the City of O’Fallon.

The following are some of the other areas that we were rated higher than the National Average:

  • That the City was going in the right direction.
  • Overall economic health of O’Fallon.
  • Well planned residential growth.
  • Well planned commercial growth.
  • Vibrancy of Downtown.
  • Overall quality of new development in the city.
  • K-12 Education.
  • Overall health and wellness opportunities.
  • Quality of parks and recreation programs.
  • O’Fallon Library services.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
