2022/10/31 - Veterans' Day and Upcoming Events

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

Several things will be occurring around the nation and here in O’Fallon over the next two weeks:

  • On Sunday, November 6th, is the end of Day Light Savings Time and it is time to set your clocks back one hour.
  • On Tuesday, November the 8th is Election Day.  I hope as many as possible get out to vote.
  • Then on November 11th we will celebrate Veterans’ Day.  This day is set aside for us to remember and honor those that have served in the service of our country.

This year I would like to remind everyone that we have a major problem with suicides among our veterans and active military. Since September 11, 2001, we have lost over 30,000 of our veterans and active duty to suicide.  This is over 4 times the number of active duty that have been killed in the line of duty since that same date.  There are many different groups that are available to help someone that may be thinking about suicide, so please if you know of anyone that may be considering suicide please reach out and help them get the aid that they need.

On a brighter note, we will have two separate events on November 11th to celebrate Veterans’ Day. The first of them is our Annual Veterans’ Day Celebration that is done by the O’Fallon Veterans’ Monument Association.  It will be held at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church on East Highway 50.

The second is the annual Veterans Day Parade that is sponsored by the VFW. The parade will step off from the Community Park at 2 PM. It will go west on 3rd street to Lincoln, go north on Lincoln and then turn West on First Street and proceed to the VFW Post 805 on East First Street.

I hope to see many of you at each of the events.  We have the freedoms that we enjoy due to the service of our Veterans.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
