2022/12/19 - Mayor's Column: Happy Holidays!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

With Christmas fast approaching, I would like to wish everyone and their families a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope that everyone will be able to be with family and friends in person, by video conferencing or by phone to enjoy the holidays.

I know that our family will enjoy Christmas services and get together on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  We will enjoy the happiness of watching our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren opening their gifts from Santa and seeing the joy and excitement on their faces.  And above all, just enjoying the holiday together.

If Santa is reading this, here are my requests:

  • For our Citizens and Families: the joy of being together and enjoying each other’s company and good health.
  • For all our businesses:  fewer disruptions in getting needed supplies, getting all the way back to normal operations and being able to fill your staffing needs.
  • For our City Staff and City Council: a deep appreciation for the effort and care that you put forth for our citizens and businesses.
  • For all of those that work through the Holidays for us, such as our Service men and women that are deployed, our Police and Public Safety Staffs and our Health workers: a Big Thank You for what you do and sacrifices you make, I wish that you too will have time to enjoy the Holidays with your families.
  • For All of our Volunteers: I hope your lives are as enriched as you have enriched the lives of so many others.

I hope that this Holiday Season is a time for everyone to rest and to reflect on all the positives that have been achieved during this past year. I hope that this Christmas has a little more sparkle and joy than what we have had for a few years.

I know that our family will take time to give thanks for all that we are blessed with, attend Christmas services, gather, and enjoy the laughter and company of each other. This should really be an exciting Christmas for our 4-year-old twin granddaughters, who are really getting into Christmas this year.

The giving and helpful ways that our citizens display throughout the year has helped to make O’Fallon the fastest growing community in Southern Illinois. To me personally that is a gift that I truly appreciate every day of the year.

I’m sorry Santa but our continued growth just means you get to spend more time in our wonderful city and with our great citizens.

I hope that you and your family’s Holiday Season is filled with love, laughter, and goodwill.

City Hall will be closed on December 26th.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
