2022/12/5 - Mayor's Column: Thank You & Happy Holidays!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to several people and to let you know about some upcoming activities in the city.

I can’t say “Thank You” enough for the great job that Beth Ortega and her Merry Band of Helpers did on the Illuminated Holiday Parade, last week. They not only put together one fabulous parade, but they did it with the need to move it a day with only about a 24-hour notice due to the weather forecast. The streets were lined four and five deep and the children were having a great time. We will honor them at the December 19th City Council Meeting.

In the background to all of this was some terrific support from our Public Safety, Public Works and Parks & Recreation Departments as they juggled schedules of staffing to make sure that everything was in place for the parade and after the parade.

As the year closes out, our Community Development Department is already busy reviewing plans for the many projects approved over the last few months and having discussions with some new developments that may be coming forth in 2023 to the city.  So be on the lookout for quite a bit of new construction in the upcoming months.

Next week I will share with you the effort and process that our Council, Committees, and Departments use to assure our citizens that new developments are done properly and that citizens have opportunities to always give input.  I think you will find it is much more organized and open than what occurs in some communities.

Thanks to the Public Works Department for getting the new turn lanes installed on Rt. 50 and Old Collinsville Road.  Their timing was perfect having it ready for the Christmas Shopping Season.  This should be very helpful in keeping traffic moving.

There are also some dates that I wanted to share with you in accordance with the upcoming holidays.:

  • City Hall will be closed on Monday, December 26th and on Monday January 2nd.
  • All committee meetings for December 26th have been cancelled
  • Also, the City Council Meeting for January 2nd has been cancelled.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
