“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

This week, I would like to bring you up to date on three separate projects that are happening in O’Fallon and a THANK YOU to the Hinchcliffe PTO.

  • I want to express my personal THANK YOU to all the individuals, companies and organizations that have so generously donated over $75,000 to the construction of the “ALL CHILDREN PLAYGROUND”.  You may already notice some of the preparation work happening at the Community Park.  These donations will help make it something that our entire city can be proud of.  We have also received commitments from over 40 citizens to help with the construction.

  • You may have noticed a lot of flags in the right of ways and digging for new cable to be run throughout different parts of the city.  We have three different firms putting down new fiber. This should end up offering our citizens more options for their internet services, but it is also a sign that they recognize that O’Fallon is a place to do business.

  • I want to give a compliment to our Community Development Staff led by Justin Randall and the Council’s Community Development Committee (Todd Roach, Jim Campbell, Nathan Parchman, Stephanie Smallheer, Jerry Albrecht and Tom Vorce) for the work that they have put in over the last two years to finally start the redevelopment of the old Southview Plaza.  They have studied different plans, listened to the developers, listened to staff and listened to citizens and then came up with a plan for the start of the redevelopment on this long-time commercial piece of property that has sat vacant for over two years. The current plan has been approved by the committee and by the Council on 1st reading. Next week it goes before the council for the final vote.  The plan developed by the committee should help resolve many of the concerns raised by the citizens, plus help reduce the flooding and loss of property in Southview and neighboring areas that was contributed to by the run-off of storm water from the old development.

  • I would like to give a shout out and CONGRATULATIONS to the Hinchcliffe PTO for being recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education for their work with the students and staff at Hinchcliffe.  They were awarded the “THOSE THAT EXCEL “award by the state board.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
