2023/02/28 - Mayor's Column: New Developments

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

I would like to take this time to thank two of our Council Committees and City Departments for all of the work that they are doing right now for our citizens.

Thanks to our Finance Committee (Nathan Parchman, Jessica Lotz, Chris Monroe, Stephanie Smallheer, Jim Campbell and Andrea Fohne) and our Finance Department which is led by Sandy Evans for all the work that they have done in preparation for the budget meetings that have been happening since the first of the year and will continue through March. They lead the way to help us properly use your tax dollars in a fiscally responsible manner.

Then I would like to thank our Community Development Committee (Todd Roach, Jim Campbell, Nathan Parchman, Stephanie Smallheer, Jerry Albrecht, and Tom Vorce) and the City Staff led by Justin Randall for all the work that they have put in to reviewing future plans for new developments, listening to the developers, listening to staff and listening to comments and concerns from citizens over the past year.  The effort of this group is critical in what projects go forward, what projects must have changes and which projects are rejected.

As a result of their work, our citizens have new businesses to utilize, more jobs for the area, new and varied types of housing developments to choose from, and less real-estate taxes on residents due to the amount paid by local businesses with buildings in town and the sales tax that are generated by them.

Here are some of the new developments that you will see begin on over the next few months:

  • New Residential Development on Old Collinsville Road
  • New Apartment and Commercial Development on Central Park Drive
  • New Outback Steak House by Drury Inn
  • New Dunkin Donuts off of Central Park Drive
  • New Mixed Residential Developments on South Lawn
  • New Apartments on North Lincoln
  • New Residential Development on South Lincoln
  • New Business Development on the old Southview Property
  • New Residential Development off Seven Hills Road
  • The continued Development of Commercial property at the Rec-Plex
  • The continued Development of Apartments and Commercial propriety on Troy-Scott Rd.
  • Other Residential construction throughout the city
  • More growth and events in Downtown O’Fallon

These committees and staff spend many hours outside of meetings, studying material, planning, and listening to the input of everyone as these budgets and projects move forward.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
