2023/03/13 - Mayor's Column: Park Updates

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

This coming year, the Parks & Recreation Department will be looking to make several changes and additions at the Community Park, Family Sports Park and at Hesse Park, and City Cemetery.

We have ten parks in the City of O’Fallon. Last year, about 2 million dollars were spent on all-weather surfaces on the baseball and softball fields at the Family Sports Park and a new playground. We also put down new turf on Blazier Field in conjunction with an agreement we have with the High School. In addition to the new turf on Blazier, other improvements such as all new fencing has been installed just in time for the season to begin.

This coming year, you will see several new developments taking place in our different parks.  At the Community Park, among the changes is the development of the all-abilities playground, new walking paths and work on the Katy Cavins Center.  In addition to this, you will see the final plans being developed for the new swimming pool.

Over at the Hesse Park, you will see six new lighted Pickle Ball courts being installed.  Pickle ball is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.  This past year the other pickle ball courts were resurfaced, and additions made to them.

At the Sports Park a new feature being added will be an outdoor exercising area.

Then over at the City Cemetery, we will have the first two of several columbarium installed.  These first two Columbarium will contain 96 niches for a persons cremated remains to be placed in.  This will allow us to offer new burial option to our citizens and should expand the life of the city cemetery.

I want to thank our Staff and the Parks Committee (Jerry Albrecht, Gwen Randolph, Dennis Muyleart, Roy Carney and Chris Monroe) for their work on moving these through from ideas to development.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
