“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

Here are some highlights of what is happening over the next couple of weeks in O’Fallon:

  • On April 18th and 19th, I will be traveling to Springfield as a member of the Executive Committee of the Illinois Municipal League (IML). IML represents and advocates for over 1,250 communities in Illinois. I will participate in meetings with the Governor, State Treasurer; House Speaker & Republican House Leader; the Senate President and Republican Senate Leader, and others to discuss legislation impacting our cities.
  • On April 27th there will be a Town Hall meeting at 6 PM at City Hall for residents to express their ideas for the traffic on Pierce Avenue.  A follow up meeting will be held on May 18th to share traffic research from engineers and discuss options to help improve traffic concerns on this connector road.
  • Congratulations to the newly elected and reelected members of the City Council.  Their swearing-in will take place at our May 1st City Council Meeting.
  • On May 13th, O’Fallon Station will host the annual kick-off of the Vine Street Market and Founders Day.

Here are a few other items you may be interested in:

  • A new gateway sign on Highway 50 has been installed at the intersection of Old Collinsville Road on the west side of town. We still have some landscaping to perform.
  • The City’s investment committee is taking advantage of the higher interest rates.  We recently invested over $4.5 Million into FDIC insured CD’s with PMA and Commerce Bank with interest rates from 4.5% to 5.7%. All city Funds are invested in insured or collateralized types of investments. For over 15 years, every financial investment the City made, generated profit.
  • The first floor of the Blade Building (former home of 1818 Chophouse) will have a new tenant when Oaxaca Margarita Bar & Grill Restaurant opens up there.
  • The $14 Million expansion and upgrade to O’Fallon’s sewer plant is underway. This upgrade will ensure that we remain in compliance with all new State and Federal EPA requirements for the long-term. It also allows for more expansion and a reduction in operating costs.  This is being done with a 20-year loan with an interest rate of under 1% due to the City’s excellent financial rating.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
