2023/08/14 - Mayor's Column: Busy Schedules!

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

With the busy schedules that many have during the summer, we sometimes don’t keep track of everything that is going on in our city, so I thought I would take a moment to just highlight a few of the things that have happened or are on-going.

These are items that don’t hit the headlines but are important for a community that wants to keep everyone in mind as we move forward.

  • Work continues on the upgrades to the city sewer plant.
  • Three very successful District Nights, summer concert series in Downtown have come to close.
  • Ongoing work of repairing Streets, Sewer lines and Storm Water Lines were a large part of the City’s summer work schedule.
  • Work on the All Childrens Playground at the Community Park is getting near completion. Thank you to all the volunteers that came out and helped last week.
  • The Summer reading Program at the Library which had over 970 readers participate.  This is a big plus to keep students moving forward vs sliding back during the summer break.
  • The work of our Resident Assistance Task Force which helps provide assistance through local churches and charities on water and electric bills for O’Fallon families in need of help.
  • Having our Vine Street Market become qualified to help families purchase fresh produce and meat through SNAP & Link Programs.
  • Working with the county, local charities and churches to get citizens assistance through the LIHEAP programs.  During the 2023 program year 370 O’Fallon residents were approved.
  • And the aide and assistance given by our Public Safety and Public Works Departments during the recent storms.
  • Several studies on Streets, Highways and Drainage for future work.

I will expand on this in a later article.

  • City Fest is just 2 weeks away on August 25th & 26th.

This is just some of the many programs and projects that you may not have been aware that the city was and is involved with.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
