2023/09/25 - Mayor's Column: Many Projects

This article is to bring you up to date on a few projects that the city has going on. These projects have all been approved in the past. Some of these projects have taken longer to start due to material delays; but they continue to move forward.

  • The new residential development on South Lincoln (at the Stop Light near I-64) has begun preparations for moving this development forward.
  • The assisted living facility that was approved for North Lincoln and Kyle has notified us that they have a new architect working on the design.
  • Construction on the new residential and commercial development on Central Park Drive is waiting for delivery of electrical equipment needed for the construction. Deliveries were pushed out almost a year.
  • The study of traffic counts and the speed of the traffic on Pierce continues as we wait for materials that have been ordered to try different traffic calming measures.  Some of the equipment that will be used has had the delivery dates pushed out by the manufacturers.  Our Police Department is training other officers in the procedures needed to enforce the cut through truck traffic on the nearby streets.
  • Fall is with us and that means that leaves will be falling soon.  I would like to remind everyone not to blow or rake leaves into the streets.  This causes safety and drainage problems as they block up drains and storm water trunks and make for a slick surface when wet.
  • Several of us have just returned from the Illinois Municipal League Conference in Chicago, which was attended by over 1,000 communities in the State.  Our City Administrator and Director of Community Development were asked to make presentations on Economic Development and Land Planning. I led a roundtable discussion on productive economic development. We learned a lot and I look forward to seeing how the City Council applies their new knowledge.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
