2023/10/09 - Mayor's Column: Town Hall

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

This weeks article is about two happenings in our City and some major recognitions for O’Fallon:

  1. We have a Town Hall on Wednesday the 11th at 6:30 PM at City Hall.  It will be a presentation on the transformation and revitalization of the City’s oldest park, the Community Park.  Please come and see what is and will be occurring over the next two years.
  2. If you aren’t aware the O’Fallon City Cemetery now has options for families when considering the final resting place for a family member with the installation of two Columbarium in the center of the cemetery. It has been designed to add more as needed.
  3. Two years ago, after 18 months of work and with the involvement of over 1,700 citizens, the city developed it’s 2040 Master Plan.  The plan is a guide for the future development of O’Fallon over the next 20 years. It’s much like our 5-year Capital Improvement Plan and the studies done on our water, sewer, stormwater and streets. They all are important in keeping your city moving forward in a proactive and positive manner vs being reactionary and trying to do something from the seat of your pants. But this Master Plan has truly put the city on the Map in so many ways. Since its publication about 18 months ago, it has been cited around the country and around the world for its forward thinking.  It was covered by the BND; Fox 2 in St. Louis; the Illinois Public Media; The Illinois Municipal League; the Wealthtender; and Great Britain’s The Guardian, which was founded by two former editors of the Harvard Business Review and winner of the Magazine of the Year Award. And if this is not enough, we have just been contacted by the Chicago NBC affiliate that they want to come to O’Fallon and see our city and discuss our plan.

It not only shows the work and planning that was put into the Master Plan, but it introduces the City of O’Fallon to people and Businesses around the world. It tells them that here is a place with a future and a place you should consider being in.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
