2023/10/23 - Mayor's Column: All-Abilities Playground

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

During the past year, many people have told me how nice our Parks look, how nice the Downtown Market is, how pretty the City Hall and the Roundabouts look, and how they enjoyed the Downtown District Nights.  There are many people involved in these things but one thing in common is that they are spearheaded by members of our Parks Staff.

And now, on the eve of the 100th Anniversary of our Beautiful Community Park we are seeing some significant upgrades to this, the “Granddaddy” of all of our Parks.

One of the first significant changes to the Community Park is the brand-new All-Children Playground.  The formal opening of this new feature will be held at 4:30 PM on Monday October 30th.

I have been excited about what this brings to our community since it was first proposed by our Park’s Director Andrew Dallner and approved by our City Council.  Now we are hearing so many positive comments about this feature which is something ALL children can enjoy regardless of their physical abilities. Recently a long time Metro East Realtor (Bryan Vogt) wrote the following about this new playground:

  • It is a VIBRANT addition to the city’s recreational offerings.
  • It is designed with INCLUSIIVITY in mind for all children.
  • It is in a RELAXING and SHADED surrounding.
  • The design has kept both COMFORT and SAFETY in mind.
  • The area where the playground is located is for MORE than just kids.
  • It is designed as a space for community INTERACTION and BONDING which encourages families and neighbors to come together while fostering a sense of unity.
  • This newest playground will quickly become a GO-TO DESTINATION for families seeking outdoor recreation and a sense of community.
  • It will create LASTING MEMORIES for generations to come.

I’m looking forward to this and the other changes in Community Park allowing it to continue to be the place for community activities and creating many lasting memories for years to come, as it has for the last 100 years.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
