2024/02/20 - Mayor's Column: Get Involved in Your Community

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

As we look forward to Spring, a new Fiscal Year for the City of O’Fallon, and an Election Year in the area, I want to say THANK YOU to all of our citizens and businesses that are actively involved in the community in a constructive manner. It is so easy to sit back and enjoy the efforts of others or to nit-pick their work.

That is why I want to say thanks to those that get involved like:

  • City Council
  • Local School Boards
  • City Boards and Commissions
  • Volunteers and Sponsors of City Fest
  • PTOs at our Schools
  • The Many Organizations that give back in so many ways
  • Our Scout Leaders
  • Our Youth Sports Coaches
  • The Food Pantry
  • Our Fire Department Volunteers

It is sad to see these people criticized by those that don’t get involved.  It is always easy to criticize but it is harder to give your time and effort to help others and except the responsibility for the position and get something done for those you serve.

It is sad to see the open school board seats and other elected positions without candidates to run for these important positions.

I ask you if you truly care about our city: become involved.  We need your involvement, if you are at all available and interested so that we can keep O’Fallon a great place to call home.

Yes, it is time consuming and challenging but it is rewarding when you see the positives that can occur with your involvement.  This is coming from someone that has been elected to offices seven times and spent over 45 years being active in our community, state and nationally in many ways.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
