2024/04/09 - Mayor's Column: The Great Work of Our Community

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

As the Mayor of O’Fallon, it is my pleasure to sit back and see the work that our entire community puts forth get REWARDED.  And when I say our entire community, I mean just that.  This includes all our residents that volunteer their time for City Fest, the Downtown Vine Street Market, our Downtown District Nights Concerts, helping with youth programs and so many other activities in town. It includes those that get involved with our churches and other organizations, it includes the work of our City Council and of our City Staff.

Here is why I say that:

  • In December, we received the highest financial rating of any city south of I-80 in Illinois (lower 80% of Illinois) by the S&P Financial Rating Services.
  • Our Fire Department has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 State Fire Marshall Fire Prevention & Life Safety Award. It is our understanding that this is the first time the award has been presented to a fire department south of Springfield.
  • In a new 2024 nation-wide rating of BEST COMMUNITIES TO LIVE IN, O’Fallon has been rated:
    • #1 in all of St. Clair County.
    • #1 of all the Illinois Cities in the St. Louis Region.
    • In the top 10 % of all cities across the United States for places to live.  This is the second year in a row that O’Fallon has been ranked in the top 10%.

These recognitions aren’t because of any one person or one group, it is the work of everyone that gets involved.  So, I just want to say Thank You.  Your involvement in our Community is what makes O’Fallon one of the best places to call home in the United States.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
