2024/04/16 - Mayor's Column: Financial Rating of O'Fallon

“AN OPEN DOOR TO O’FALLON”
A WEEKLY NOTE FROM MAYOR HERB ROACH

You have read in my past articles that the City of O’Fallon was given the highest financial rating of any city south of I-80(southern 80% of the state). There are several things that go into getting that rating, so I thought that I would list a few of them for you.

  • We have a Balanced Budget
  • We have a 5-year Capital Improvement Plan that spells out major expenditures during the next 5 years.
  • We have created plans to maintain and/or improve our infrastructure.
  • We have significant growth in both our Residential and Commercial development.
  • We have lowered our City Real estate Tax Rate 7 years in a row or back to where it was 35 + years ago.
  • This is the 1st time that the City Real estate tax rate has been lowered for 7 straight years in 35 + years.
  • We have the lowest City Real estate Tax rate of any city in St. Clair or Madison County that has a population of 20,000 +
  • We have lowered the city debt by over 10%
  • We have Raised the city reserves by over 125%.

I want to thank our Staff and our City Council for their due diligence and being fiscally responsible with your tax dollars.

As residents of O’Fallon, you should always be able to reach out to your elected officials and ask questions about what is happening in O’Fallon. Having open communications is important to me and something I care very deeply about. Thank you for reading, and please remember, my door is always open.
