One of my roles as City Administrator is to represent the City of O’Fallon at various functions and meetings. This is usually a fun activity, because I am proud to work for O’Fallon and because it is easy to talk about the great things going on in O’Fallon.

Here are three recent events I attended where I had an opportunity to brag about O’Fallon:

Honorary Commander Graduation Ceremony: For the last three years, I have had the privilege to serve as an “Honorary Commander” with the 906th Refueling Squadron at Scott Air Force Base. I was paired with Lt. Col. Jason Knab and learned about their operations. I also met other officers in the 375th Air Mobility Wing and discussed ways the City of O’Fallon can assist our military. Last Wednesday was the graduation ceremony that ended my stint as Honorary Commander. I am grateful to Lt. Col. Knab for being a great host and am happy to assist our military neighbors.

Leaders at all Levels Presentation: I was a presenter at the Illinois City/County Management Summer Conference to describe our efforts to become a high-performance organization. Over the past 18 months, we have been developing leaders at all levels and training City employees to solve problems, improve operations, and improve service to our residents. I was proud to present our accomplishments and how our talented employees are providing outstanding leadership to the O’Fallon community.

15-Minute City Presentation: I was a presenter at the Shockey Consulting “How to Think like a Futurist” workshop to discuss O’Fallon’s new 2040 Master Plan and our vision to be a “15-Minute City.” The 15-Minute City is the idea that everything a person needs should be within a 15-minute walk or cycle from any point in the city, including work, shopping, education, healthcare, leisure and any other amenities a person may need in their regular life. This concept is part of O’Fallon’s 2040 Master Plan for future land use planning and development and is a relatively new idea in our region. While it is still early in the implementation of the Master Plan, I was excited to show attendees how the City of O’Fallon is focusing on residents’ quality of life and enjoyment.

When I attend these events and others, I am continually reminded that we are leaders in among Illinois cities. Our employees are dedicated to providing excellent public services, and we are continually working to improve ourselves. We live in an exceptional community, and I am happy to share the good news.
