The Planning & Zoning Division is responsible for the physical planning and development function of the city. Responsibilities included implementing the City’s Comprehensive Plan, zoning code, and subdivision code. The division coordinates site plan review with the Engineering, Fire, and Public Safety Departments and provides staff support to the Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Officer, Community Development Committee, and Historic Preservation Commission.
Residents work with the Planning & Zoning Division when building sheds, porches, decks, covered patios and swimming pools to check setbacks, heights, and lot coverage as they apply for a building permit. The division also coordinates all home based businesses within the City.
