Arrest made in recent vandalism reports

Leroy Johnson, Jr

Since the beginning of March 2021 multiple incidents of vandalism have been reported to the O’Fallon Police Department in and around the Lincoln Crossing complex in the 1500 block of W. Highway 50.  The vandalism included vehicles being “keyed” along with several vehicle and business windows being broken.

During the investigation, officers developed information which led to the identification of Leroy Johnson, Jr (50yoa) who was believed to be responsible for the vandalism.

On Monday at about 7:55pm, Leroy was located and taken into custody while walking in the 1600 block of W. Highway 50.  During his arrest, Johnson was charged with obstructing identification and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The vandalism case was presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Johnson was charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property.  Johnson’s bond was set at $95,000.00.  He is currently in the custody of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.

These incidents appeared to be random acts of vandalism.  There was no information to suggest Johnson entered any of the vehicles or businesses he damaged.

We are proud of our patrol division for vigilantly patrolling the area which led to the identification, arrest, and resolution of this investigation.
