Car Crash

On Wednesday 02-09-22 at approximately 8:25 PM O’Fallon First Responders were dispatched to a two-car crash in the 100 block of W Hwy 50, just west of Lincoln Avenue.  A preliminary investigation showed that a Kia Sorento was travelling east bound on W Highway 50 when it crossed over the center line and collided with Honda Odyssey minivan, which had been traveling west bound on Hwy 50. The Honda was occupied by a female driver and her juvenile daughter.  The driver of the minivan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital via an ambulance.  The juvenile passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported from the scene via helicopter.

Due to the severity of the crash, we contacted the Illinois State Police and requested assistance via their traffic crash reconstruction team.  We are waiting on the full reconstruction report to determine additional details about the crash.

The driver of the Kia, who was identified as Amendrezz Turner, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to a St. Louis area hospital via ambulance.   The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office later charged Turner with two counts of Burglary and one count of Aggravated Battery.  These charges are related to his actions after the crash, where he attempted to leave the scene and enter other vehicles stopped nearby.

The O’Fallon Police Department is still investigating the cause of the crash including the possibility Turner of the may have been under the influence at the time.   This portion of the investigation is ongoing and pending toxicology results.

Turner, who is 19 years of age, was driving a family members vehicle at the time of the crash.  He is currently being held at the St. Louis Justice Center pending extradition back to Illinois.

No photograph of Turner is available, at this time.
