Press Release

On Monday March 22, 2021 at approximately 6:35 AM the O’Fallon Police Department responded to a report of a subject laying on the sidewalk in the 100 block of W. Washington St.  Responding officers located a man lying on the sidewalk with injuries to his head.  The man was unable to communicate with the responding officers and appeared to be suffering from some type of medical emergency.  The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

At the time of this incident, there was no indication that the man was a victim of any sort of crime.  There was no additional visible trauma to his body and there was no indication that any of his property was taken.   Over the last several days there have been social media posts indicating the man was robbed and beaten.  These reports are inconsistent with the observations of the officers on scene and information provided to us by medical staff who treated the subject.  Contrary to social media reports, the man’s wallet was located in his back pocket by responding officers, who used the wallet identify him as Paul David Sobol.

The O’Fallon Police Department continues to investigate this incident and has been in contact with the Sobol’s family and medical staff.  This investigation has revealed no new information that a crime was committed.  If anyone has information about Sobol’s whereabouts or has information to indicate that he may have been a victim of a crime, please contact the O’Fallon Police Department at 618-624-4545, and ask to speak with Det. Nick Schmidt.  We hope and pray that Sobol makes a full and speedy recovery.
