Press Release

In the early morning hours of July 3, 2021, the O’Fallon Police Department responded to a call of subjects attempting to enter vehicles in the neighborhood surrounding EK School.  Responding police units located several juveniles who fled upon police contact.  Two of the juveniles were located and taken into custody a short time later, without incident.  At the time of arrest, one of juveniles was armed with a loaded handgun and they were also in possession of a stolen vehicle.  In total, two stolen vehicles were recovered.  The two juveniles that were taken into custody were subsequently petitioned in the St. Clair County juvenile court system.  Criminal charges of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Burglary to Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting a Police Officer were brought against the first juvenile and criminal charges of Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle and Resisting a Police Officer were brought against the second juvenile.

Recently, these types of crimes seem to be on the rise not only in O’Fallon, but also in surrounding communities.  As such, we would like to remind everyone of simple safety tips, which can reduce the likelihood of becoming a crime victim.

  • Lock your vehicles when they are not in use.
  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicles, especially in plain sight.
  • Never leave keys in your vehicle if you leave your vehicle.
  • Try to make sure your vehicle is left in a well-lighted area.

The subjects who are perpetrating these crimes are often not local residents, and as noted above, they are sometimes armed.  Do not attempt to contact the subjects if you see something that seems out of place.  Instead, immediately call 911 so an officer can be dispatched to investigate.  By working together, we can help protect our community and keep it as safe as possible.
